St Edmund's SEND Unit

Welcome

Welcome to The Nest, St Edmund’s SEND Unit

On behalf of everyone at The Nest, I warmly welcome you to our website. Whether you are a parent who is seeking a specialist placement for your child, a family whose child is currently attending our unit, or someone who is interested in finding out what we offer, our website aims to provide you with all you need to know.

The Nest at St Edmund’s provides a specialist setting where children can access a specifically tailored curriculum that promotes achievement in learning and independence for all. Our pupils benefit from being in a class with a small number of children and a multi-sensory approach to learning. We focus in on key skills that will support pupils into adulthood and use a combination of direct class teaching, group work and exploratory play. Dedicated time is set in the school day for individual work on EHCP targets and opportunities to practice life skills in the real world, like road safety, buying from a shop or designing and making a healthy meal. The children all receive structured work on emotional and social literacy and we work with outside agencies to target key areas of need.

Our building is separate from the main school and has its own facilities including a sensory room, woodland and outdoor classroom. We also have the advantage of sharing the playground, hall and forest area with the main school, allowing our pupils to be part of a larger community. Our small classes allow us to work closely with each child on their personal goals and targets; building happy, healthy and confident individuals

We are extremely proud of our Unit and have worked to create a safe and welcoming environment where all children can thrive. We encourage you to come and visit in person so you can see how our children learn and grow.
