Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium Funding?

At the Partnership of St Edmund’s and St Joseph’s we believe every child should be supported by good teaching to achieve the best they can. Some children for a variety of reasons take longer to learn some things (for example reading, sounds, handwriting). Some children have particular circumstances that can make it harder for them to learn (for example disability, special education needs, social and emotional needs, financial difficulty like redundancy, parental separation, long term illness).

All staff work hard to identify children who may need extra help for specific activities or for longer periods of time whilst at school. We will work with you to find ways to support your child to continue to make good progress and do well at school whatever the challenges they may face individually or as a result of family circumstances. If you believe your child needs extra support please speak to the class teacher.

Each year the schools receive additional funding to support children who have parents in the armed forces; are looked after by the local authority or have free school meals. The school can use this money to ensure pupils who experience difficulties in their learning receive extra teaching and resources.  The money is allocated for these groups as nationally they make less progress and are more likely to achieve less well than their peers.

How is Pupil Premium Funding spent?

We use this money to provide:

  • 1:1 and small group teaching in Maths and English with specialist teachers and teaching assistants
  • Speech and language therapy to support children with communication difficulties- ELKAN, Makaton
  • Specialist programmes for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs- THRIVE, ELSA
  • Workshops provided by OM Health and Well-Being consultancy for pupils and parents related to physical, emotional and mental health
